Museum for contemporary history

In the centre of the municipality of Ebensee our association opened a museum (green building opposite the Catholic Church) for contemporary history in 2001.
The museum shows the history of Austria (focused on the “Salzkammergut”region) between 1918 and 1955. Around 1000 photos and documents are exhibited. Three halls illustrate the history of the First Republic, Austro-Fascism, National Socialism and the post-war era.

     Archives and Library

The building also houses the archives and a library. The archives contain thousands of pictures and documents from the period between 1918-1955, above all lists of victims and survivors of the concentration camp. The data can be viewed by visitors.
